Old Merthyr Website ..Troedyrhiw is Caractacus(an ancient "Welsh King" that kicked the ass of the Romans and his castle was not to far from Merthyr)

"In 1927 Robert H. Weale, the youngest son of Rhys Weale, convinced his son in law Alfred Jones to immigrate to Canada. They arrived in Quebec, Canada and headed west to the coal mines of Alberta. They found work in the mines and soon brought the families out. While many stayed behind, others that followed shortly were Thomas Rees, Patrick Mahoney, Jack Thomas and the Lloyds to only mention a few, along with their family members, friends and relatives. Although Robert (Bob) Weale never had music lessons he could play any instrument and started up bands where ever he went. Alfred Jones lived at #16 Plantation Square, Troedyrhiw. Robert Weale lived at #35 Wyndham street, Troedyrhiw. Are these houses still there? If so is it possible to get a picture of them ?.
I would be very interested if anyone can relate and add information to this story or the people involved....Thank You...Bob"

Bob ...Here are some 2009 Google street pics of Plantation Square and 35 Wyndham Street with the "very old" 'Sally Anne' next door
Salvation Army=Sally Anne in Canada.
I left Troedyrhiw for Canada in 1973..I lived at one time on Ash road..but the Google Camera Cars cannot get up between the toilets to take a pic of #14(your mention) ..Dammit..I have inadvertantly given the Town Council an idea for raising the taxes of the downtrodden..Do you think they would want Google's tel #....:-)

Ash Road..well there is only seven houses on Ash road now..(6 actually + thee Pub) unless of course Google is nuking places of Welsh Nationalist strategical interest..

Someone else on "Old Merthyr" was asking about Troedyrhiw's "Mount Zion" church which is/was up the little hill from 35 Wyndham Street to Cardiff road..Needless to say...Nah...you have a look:-)...Its on this same page:-)...Caractacus

Uncle John had a couple of acres opposite these hidden houses...two horses and millions of pigs[seemed like] with a few dozen chickens..See all the sheds in pic..I am talking of Uncle John(Shampy)here over 50 years ago.... but he had a sincereness that would melt the devils heartPlan view of Plantation Square..See additional houses(fronting road/lane) in direction little robot man (LRM) is looking..Dynevor Pub at right of LRM..Mouseover for further info

But,but, but what about your neighbour...belowVery nice frontage indeed...35 Wyndham Street

Just noticed the house number on the gabbage bin..One can ALWAYS trust the Salvation Army..Why push the bin up towards old Sally Anne...Yea..it would spoil the frontal imageJust noticed the house number on the gabbage bin..Mouseover

long street with even longer memories35 Wyndham Street Troedyrhiw with street view showing house size differential. Number 35 is a little(very) more magnified that the rest of the street...note the mismatch of pavement curb in front of house

Another image, but this time look at the plan view and relate the new houses built and the what appears to be the roof of this very big Mount Zion church as can be seen in other pic..Notice the WHITE VAN in BOTH pics...What Google is doing is superimposing the eight camera car images onto Google Earth otherwise the camera car is speeding around 600mph if one compares in the two pics the distance the WHITE VAN has moved(about 5 feet) and the 100+ feet the cameras car have travelled..Is this self incriminating..Should Google be brought before the Another image, but this time look at the plan view and relate the new houses built and the what appears to be the roof of this very big Mount Zion church as can be seen in other pic..Notice the WHITE VAN in BOTH pics...What Google is doing is superimposing the eight camera car images onto Google Earth otherwise the camera car is speeding around 600mph if one compares in the two pics the distance the WHITE VAN has moved(about 5 feet) and the 100+ feet the cameras car have travelled..Is the WHITE VAN parked illegally..Is this self incriminating from Google's viewpoint..Should Google be brought before the "Elders of Merthyr Council" and "encouraged" to provide financial relief for all penniless Churches and football clubs in the area and be persuaded to "modify"(not criminally of course) all images pertaining to British Petroleum and the Gulf...or should the "Elders" remove their "licence" permanently..Chinese style

Re: Can someone help me with the name of this pub?
« Reply #14 Today at 4:34am » by Troedyrhiw...aka Caractacus

Kedgie...
I am sure that the Elders of Iron(Merthyr) passed a law many years ago prohibiting Pubs being built next to Church's and graveyards ....as I have scowered the nearby countryside of Pontstic and Merthyr and no triple heavenly places/areas have been detected.
However Kedgie,I have walked the streets with my 8 camera coal miners hat on and come up with two possiblenesses for your perusal...
Google Streetview stole their technology from my grandfather...a lowly paid coal miner from Treharris...Caractacus

addendum..Just read and tried QYGS1966's suggestion about the Red Lion..See first two pics.
Can you remember saying this Kedgie..in 2007.."I don't think so Jeff, I thought it was called the Red Lion, but I've looked that up and had no luck..I guess I could just drive out there next time I'm home and hope I don't get lost!"
..Do you think maybe Google is playing games with the Valley Religious Elders and transplanted the pub..on their maps..Maybe that is why my grandads idea didn't catch on in the 1800's..He would have preferred the "Red Dragon"...cos lions and cows are never red are they? :-))
The other couple of pubs below appear quite nice and friendly...but alas,no Church's or Synagogue or Graveyards nearby.:-))
"Talybont on Usk White Hart Inn"?? You mention something about ***** on/upon *****.
